Which profile does your bolt use?

More questions →

Four profiles, and in a dim footwell they look identical. Put the wrong one in and it turns for half a second, then the head is gone. Pick one and try to seat it.

Triple square, also called XZN

Three squares laid over each other. Twelve points, every tip a right angle. This is what holds a lot of your car together, and it is the one most kits leave out.

Spline

Twelve teeth with straight flanks. It drops into a triple square head and feels close enough to turn. That feeling is what rounds the bolt.

Ribe, also called polydrive

Rounded lobes instead of square tips. Common on injector and head bolts. Not interchangeable with anything else, whatever the bin at the parts store says.

Torx

Six lobes. Easy to tell apart in daylight, easy to confuse with ribe under a car. Your interior trim and a lot of brake work live here.

Triple square selected. Hold to drive it in.

Questions

Will this fit my car?

Every tool is tagged to the makes and models it fits. Use the finder at the top and it takes you straight to the tools for your car, with performance parts one tap away. Each product page lists the engines and platforms it covers. If you are still unsure, send us the year, model and engine code and we will tell you straight.

It is a one time job. Is buying the tool worth it?

Compare it to what the alternative costs. Parts stores lend the tools every car needs, but they do not stock a VAG timing kit or a triple square long enough to clear a CV boot. A rounded bolt on a subframe turns a two hour job into a drill, an extractor and a bad afternoon. The tool is usually cheaper than the bolt it saves, and it stays in your drawer afterwards.

Why not just use a spline bit? It fits.

It goes in, which is the trap. Spline flanks meet a triple square head on the corners instead of the flats, so the load sits on four small points. It turns until the torque climbs, and then it does not. This is the single most common way people lose a bolt on these cars.

How fast does it ship?

Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days, and US shipping is free on orders over $50. Full delivery times, tracking and the 30 day return terms are on the shop, and tracking is linked from the top of every page there.

Tell us the car. We will tell you the tool.

Year, model and engine code is enough. If we stock the right tool we will point you at it, and if we do not we will say so.
