The socket itself matters just as much as the torque — a worn or ill-fitting socket slipping under that much load is a real risk to both the wheel and whoever's standing near it.

You'll also need a breaker bar or impact wrench rated for the torque involved, a torque wrench capable of accurately reading the final tightening spec (which is significantly higher than a standard lug nut), and the car safely and fully supported — this is not a job to do with the wheel only partially off the ground.
Step 1: Loosen While the Car Is on the Ground
Break the center nut loose while the wheel still has the car's weight on it and can't spin — exactly like breaking loose standard lug nuts before jacking up the car. Trying to break a center-lock nut free with the wheel hanging free is how the wheel spins instead of the nut turning.
Step 2: Fit the Socket Fully
Seat the center lock socket completely onto the nut, confirming it's square and fully engaged with the spline pattern before applying any force. A socket that's even slightly cocked will round the nut under this much torque.
Step 3: Break the Nut Loose
Apply steady force with a breaker bar or a properly torque-rated impact wrench. This nut is genuinely tight from the factory — that's expected, not a sign something's wrong.
Step 4: Raise the Car and Remove the Wheel
With the nut loosened, raise and support the car properly, finish removing the nut by hand, and pull the wheel straight off the hub.
Step 5: Inspect the Hub and Nut Threads
Check the hub splines and nut threads for damage or corrosion before reinstalling. Clean, light lubrication on the threads (per your specific torque spec — some center-lock specs assume dry threads, others assume lubricated, and the number changes accordingly) helps ensure an accurate final torque reading.
Step 6: Reinstall and Snug by Hand
Fit the wheel, thread the nut on by hand to confirm it's not cross-threaded, then snug it with the socket while the wheel can still be held from spinning.
Step 7: Lower the Car and Final-Torque
Lower the car so its weight prevents the wheel from spinning, then torque the nut to the exact factory spec with a torque wrench — do not estimate this by feel. Center-lock torque specs are well beyond standard lug nut numbers and matter for both safety and long-term hub condition.
